Were You Aware of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde?
Were You Aware of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde?My dad was a huge fan of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in school and this led to my love of Frankenstein, but after growing up, I started thinking about the original book title of Frankenstein, as well as Frankenstein Paper Topics to help me remember the names of characters. After reading the book several times, I also felt that Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, not Frankenstein, sounded like the right title. While waiting for the kids to be done for school, we sometimes ended up at our neighbor's house for coffee or a snack, and we asked if they knew who Dr. Jekyll was. She laughed and said, 'Oh no, he's dead, he went to work for the city!' I later learned she did not believe in rearing her children, in part because she had raised them without ever seeing Dr. Jekyll alive. Not long after, she told me Dr. Jekyll worked for the bank, but she just assumed that was why he was dead. Then a few years later, I asked her again if she knew who Dr. Jekyll was. Again, she looked surprised and said, 'Oh no, he's dead, he went to work for the city!'I don't know if she believed her neighbor when she said Dr. Jekyll worked for the city and she thought he might be dead, but she did tell me that her son never heard of Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde, but when I got a copy of Frankenstein, I noticed that Dr. Jekyll was mentioned repeatedly in the book. In fact, it is his name that is the book's title, which is referred to throughout the story. Even the film, as well as the novel, refer to the character as Dr. Jekyll. But was Jekyll the character who committed the crimes that became known as 'Frankenstein,' or was he the evil doctor in the book? Many people do not agree with that interpretation. Even, though the character Dr. Jekyll was described as a sadistic and domineering doctor, which some of the actions he exhibited in the book seems to indicate that is exactly what he was. When I started looking for my own Frankenstein Paper Topics, I discovered the letter ' J' in the novel, and so I decided to change the name to fit the definition of the character. So, 'Frankenstein' is a word that refers to a person, while 'Frankenstein Paper Topics' is the name of an area of a house, lawn, garden, etc.One of the things I found interesting was that even though the book was written at the turn of the 20th century, it was not written specifically for children, or indeed for anyone in the United States, although it did contain references to the location of the home of Dr. Jekyll's victim, who lived in Texas. It did contain some gender-neutral words. Therefore, if you do decide to read Frankenstein, you will find some surprises, because Dr. Jekyll was clearly described as a domineering and sadistic doctor, while a lot of the details in the story are unimportant and frankly irrelevant to children, but I would say this: While not one of the main characters in the story is female, there is a full chapter devoted to the character Elizabeth Shipton. Elizabeth i s one of the two main characters in the story, who is named after the author's mother.
